TH - Thailand

When to go:

Thailand has a tropical climate, hot and humid all year round with maximum temperatures around 28 ° / 35 ° C and characterized by the presence of monsoons. There is some relief in the mountains to the north near the borders. The north of the country, being located at higher altitudes, can also be visited in the following months (maximum limit in May). Between mid-May and September there is a southwestern monsoon characterized by heavy rainfall, heat and accentuated cloudiness. Between November and mid-March there is instead the appearance of a dry and cold monsoon from the north-east. The southern isthmus is instead hot and humid. The weather is still fickle and even in September, judged to be the worst month, you may be lucky enough to come across a drought and enjoy a cheap holiday. However, three different seasons can be separated:
 – Cold season: from November to the end of February. It does not rain a lot and the temperatures are at annual lows even if in the south you do not notice the difference with the hot season while if you go to the north you just need to bring a sweater or jacket in your suitcase because in the mountains the temperature can even drop to 5 °. This is the best time for a trip to Thailand and the most crowded. At Christmas and New Years and a few weeks later for the Chinese New Year, finding flights and hotels is a little more difficult and prices are higher.
– Hot season: from March to June. The temperatures are suffocating reaching 40 ° C with a heat index in the area of 50-60 ° C. This is nice if you are on the beach with a drink in your hand but not if you plan to visit temples and attractions.
Rainy season: from July to October. Although the worst month is September, the tropical monsoon affects the whole country. This does not mean that it rains continuously but when it does it is a wall of water that collapses and floods are frequent.
There are local variations in these seasons such as the south east coast, including Ko Samui, which has the opposite rainfall, with the peak season between May and October and the rainy season between November and February.

The hotels charge high season rates from November until March. The prices go back to July-August as a consequence of the greater influx of tourists who can enjoy holidays only in this period.
