African macro-regions

North Africa – Includes those African countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Western Sahara.

      Saharan Africa – Nations that are mostly covered by the Sahara desert: Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Sudan.

      West Africa – Nations on the tropical Atlantic coast: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo.

      Central Africa – The heart of Africa which includes: Angola, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Sudan.

      East Africa – Nations on the Red Sea and on the Indian Ocean: Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Somaliland, Tanzania, Uganda.

      Southern Africa – The southern tip of Africa which includes: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
