DZ - Algeria

Although belonging to the Mediterranean climatic area, the Maghreb exhibits the typical characteristics of this climate only on the coast. In Algiers, for example, the average annual temperature is around 18 ° C (winter average 12 ° C, summer 24 ° C) while in the upper Chelif there are winter frosts and summer temperatures up to 47 ° C. Precipitation is largely determined by the interaction between the humid and dry continental air masses of Saharan origin. On the external side of the Tell, in some areas, up to 1000 mm of annual rain fall; in the internal highlands the values drop to 300-400, to go up only on the slopes of the Saharan Atlas. In the Saharan area the climate is extremely arid, with both seasonal and very strong daily temperature changes. Precipitation is less than 10 mm per year, with few exceptions (for example the Ahaggar, with 200 mm).
