GN - Guinea
Guinea, just north of the equator, obviously has a tropical climate in the coastal areas and also in a large part of the inland ones. The rainy season lasts from April to November, and has fairly high temperatures and high humidity. On the contrary, from November to March there is a dry season, harmful for the development of vegetation. Despite this, it rains on average 11 months out of 12; in the extreme north-east, however, the dry season lasts longer: the northern areas, being close to the Sahel belt, are threatened by drought. But beyond this, there are several environmental problems: especially in the vicinity of the Sahel region desertification is advancing, and deforestation is also burdening the territory. Finally, the soil is damaged by pollution and erosion.
