MW - Malawi

The origin of the name “Malawi” (which is the name originally attributed to the lake, in the Bantu language) is uncertain. It is supposed to derive from the name of a tribe from the south of the country or that it refers to the glitter of the sun rising over the lake (represented on the national flag). The old name, always linked to the toponymy of the lake, is Niassaland.
