MS - Montserrat
To know:
In 1995 the eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano caused extensive damage and led to the destruction of the small capital, Plymouth. The eruptions have not stopped and continue today, albeit on a smaller scale. Tourism has suffered a setback and very few people go to Montserrat. They are attracted by the possibility of seeing the activity of the volcano up close, but access to St. George’s Hill which once formed the lookout is barred from all for obvious safety reasons. Under the effect of continuous eruptions, the Soufriere Hills is increasing its mass. In 2005 the new Gerald’s airport was opened and replaced the Bramble airport which was destroyed by the eruptions.
