JP - Japan

Spring and autumn are the best times to visit Japan. You just have to make sure that the dates of your trip do not coincide with those of the so-called “golden week”, a holiday that generally occurs between late April and early May. For the Japanese, the golden week is synonymous with holidays; hotels are fully booked as well as on trains and other means of transport.

Even if the country has a very high north-south extension and the climates diverge a lot, summer (with the exception of Hokkaidō) is a season that should be avoided: as typically happens in the Asian continent, even the Japanese summer it is characterized by high temperatures (30 ° C and above), low daily temperature range (the night remains permanently above 25 ° C, especially in urban centers) and very high humidity, which makes the perceived temperature even higher. On the contrary, winter is generally very dry, with little rainfall. Exceptions are Hokkaido, the North-East and almost all the coastal strip on the Sea of Japan which are characterized by heavy and frequent snowfalls from late November to late March. The snow of Hokkaidō is considered one of the best in the world for skiing, given the high frequency of snowfall.
