Summer is the best time to visit the country, especially if you go to the high mountains. At low altitudes the heat is felt. The climate is continental with significant annual but also diurnal temperature excursions. High altitude nights can be cold even in July-August. However, the weather often changes even in summer, as evidenced by the frequent cancellation of domestic flights caused by sudden bad weather. Spring is the period of melting snow which causes avalanches and landslides with consequent interruption of the roads. Winter is a prohibitive season.
