Saudi Arabia is administratively divided into 13 provinces (mintaqah), but the traditional divisions of the country are more useful for getting to know and visit it.

       ‘Asir – Southwestern highlands with a temperate climate and strong Yemeni influence.
       Al-Sharqiyya – Extended along the Gulf coast and Saudi oil extraction center.
       Hegiaz – On the Red Sea coast, where Mecca, Medina, Jeddah are located and is also the center of trade and commerce.
       Najd – The central highlands centered on Riyadh, the home of the Saudi dynasty and the most conservative part of the country.
       Northern Saudi Arabia – Rarely visited, it houses the Nabataean ruins of Mada’in Salih.
